Gilbert's Antiques & Upholstery

This sofa was completely stripped from the elderly fabric along with all foams and cottons. Once the wood frame was entirely visible, it was carefully inspected for any structural deficiencies. Unfortunately structural defects were present and it was necessary to entirely re-glue the frame. After the frame was rechecked and approved, the existing dark stain was removed, sanded and properly prepared to receive new dark mahogany finish. After sitting for several days in the staining booth, it was accurately cleaned and prepared for reconstruction. The reconstruction commenced with the installation of heavy gauge burlap so that the new coil springs could be appropriately installed and tied. This elegant sofa, was finished with Damask material, cushions are springed and were stuffed with horsehair and cotton wrapping.

This circa 1920’s antique sofa was entirely stripped from the old fabric along with all associated materials and padding. Once the frame was open, it was painstakingly inspected for any structural issues. Structural defects were verified, requiring entirely disassembling the frame and re-gluing the frame back together. Once the frame was re-inspected and approved the existing stain finish was removed and the wood was prepared to be refinished. After sitting in the stain booth for several days, a satin sealer was applied. The reconstruction commenced with the installation of heavy-duty burlap so the new coil springs could be appropriately installed and tied. This unique sofa was reupholstered with elegant red moe-hair fabric, cushions have springs and are wrapped with horse hair and cotton.
